    The Passionist Community of Alabama will celebrate over 8 decades October 21, 2023, 3-6 pm., with a banquet. Holy Family Entertainment Center (former HF gym). Tickets are $50, tables $400. Only 240 tickets will be sold: get your ticket(s) now. Don't miss this historic event. Deadline for ticket sales is October 15th.

     

    The 80th Anniversary Banquet of St. Mary's, and 85th anniversary of Holy Family Catholic Churches in conjunction with St. Paul of the Cross; Banquet is Saturday, October 21. We celebrate the history and legacy of the Passionist and their contributions to the Birmingham area and Ensley Communities. We pay honor to all the priests (past and current), nurses, teachers and others who have served and continue to serve the communities of Ensley and Fairfield.

    Green Mass

    The Third Annual Green Mass honoring the Feast Day of St. Francis Assisi patron saint of animals and the earth will take place Wednesday, October 4, at 6:00 P.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1910 -19th Street Ensley.

    Holy Family Alabama Historical Commission Designation

    Holy Cross Providence Passionist Community of Alabama (Holy Family) is now registered and listed in the Alabama Register of Historic Landmarks and Heritage. The enitre campus of Holy Family including the hospital is listed. These are the footprints of the Passionists and the lgeacy which has endured through the ages. NOTE: All buildings are still in use with exception of the hospital.

    Joint Parish Council meets with Fr. Joe Moons, Provential Superior of the Passionist Community) Saturday January 21, 11:00 am St. Mary

     

    St. Mary's is collecting in "SOCKS for the HOMELESS" in cooperation with the Franciscan friars. The socks are for homeless outreach and are one of the main items needed. A donation bin is in the church vestibule. This drive will end February 5, 2023.

     

    Passionist Community VIP (Senior Luncheon) will be every month on the second Tuesday, at 12 Noon with Mass. The joint activity for seniors will be November 8. This effort is to bring our seniors together for fellowship, worship and social interaction. The luncheon will alternate with Holy Family and St. Mary's.

    November 6, is Fr. Phil's Birthday, and Church Town Hall Meeting.

    The church will celebrate Fr. Phil's birthday after Mass with a repast. Gifts and donations welcomed. Also, during the celebration there will be a short 45 min. update on the status of the church, our progress, opportunities, and barriers. It will also be an opportunity for members to ask questions. Please, mark your calendar to attend November 6.

     

    St. Mary's Community Outreach Day October 22, from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm

    Over 25 community service agencies and providers will be there. Everything from free medical screenings (free COVID and flu shots), information on pharmacy prescriptions, senior citizen services, housing, jobs and job training, an attorney will answer questions on how to prepare a will, and a banker to help with financial planning. The Lakeshore Foundation, Alabama Regional Medical Services, Salvation Army, The Urban League, and food trucks. There will be a KIDZ zone with fun bounces so bring the entire family, prize drawings and free food. FREE and open to the public.

     

    The Passionist Community will celebrate Green Mass October 4, 2022, 6:30PM, at St. Mary's. Let's celebrate and honor the Mother Earth which God entrusted to us, our common home. For more information see John Meehan. Public is invited.

    Joint Parish Council meeting and workshop, Holy Family and St. Mary's scheduled for Sept. 24, 11:00 am-2:00 pm at St. Mary's. thanks to all who attended almost 100% great start for new parish council.

     

    Praying for an "End to Gun Violence: Join us every Tuesday through August 31, for Rosary and prayers. Light lunch provided afterward. (thank you to all: continue to pray) Honoring the Fathers of St. Mary. Father's Day Brunch was sponsored and hosted by the women of the parish. Plenty of good food and great fellowship. Ladies, thank you for an outstanding job.

     

    St. Mary's Prison Outreach: Thanks to everyone who donated clothing to the prison outreach. This is a partnership with the State Department of Pardons and Parole and St. Mary's. The clothes are donated to parolees to go on job interviews. July was our second drive for 2022 and the last one for the year. We will announce when our outreach drive kicks off for the 2023 year.     Mother's Day brunch prepared by the men of the parish, brunch is served immediately after Mass. We thank the men for honoring the ladies on Mother's Day.

     

    Mark your calendar to attend May 21, 2022, at 10:00 am as part of the Synod.

    The Office of Black Catholics will meet with all Black Catholics at Our Lady of Fatima for an important meeting in conjunction with the Diocese; don't forget. Lunch will be served so please call Mr. James Watts OBC, to let him know if you plan on attending.

     

    2022 St. Mary's is participating in "SOCKS for the HOMELESS" in cooperation with the Ladies Court of St. Cecelia #140 and the Franciscan friars. The socks will be given to the catholic friers who do homeless outreach on the streets of Birmingham. Socks are one of the main items needed.     Training for Eucharistic Ministers: St. Mary's parishioners are you interested in becoming an extraordinary minister or Eucharistic minister? If you are interested in attending the training, contact Deacon Peter Smith.

     

    St. Mary's site for Community Action Agency (CAA) to assist citizens with heating utility is now closed. If you know of someone needing assistance, advise them to call 256-638-4430. Also, they can dial 211 (United Way- just dial 211), or The Salvation Army, who can also assist with rent. Salvation Army on Finley Ave does food giveaway to anyone in need, no form to complete. Call to find out days of distribution.
